What are the Causes of Glaucoma and What is This Condition?

Glaucoma is a category of eye diseases that cannot be cured but can be treated. It is caused by damage to your optic nerve in your eye. This nerve connects the eye to the brain, and when it is damaged due to disease, you lose the ability to see. In fact, this condition leads to permanent vision loss.

What are Glaucoma Symptoms and How Do I Get Tested?

When it comes to glaucoma symptoms there are not too many. In fact, blurred vision or wavy vision are the only symptoms you will have. In order to prevent long-term damage from glaucoma, it is imperative to get a glaucoma test. Here at Eyes Over Copley, we use optomap testing as part of our comprehensive eye exam. This is a form of retinal screening that checks the eye for eye diseases including glaucoma, as well as macular degeneration and other conditions.

What is Glaucoma Treatment?

Glaucoma may be treated with a variety of eye drop medications, and in some cases surgery. We screen for glaucoma as part of our routine eye examination, and we refer you to a specialist for treatment. We do offer post-operative care in our office for many surgical procedures.
