Who Buys Glasses Online?
There are dozens of websites that sell eyeglasses. They’re cheap and some of them look cool. Who buys them, and why shouldn’t you?
Prescription eyeglasses are part medical device and part fashion statement. The medical device aspect often gets forgotten in the pursuit of an attractive, flattering and inexpensive fashion accessory.
If you want BOTH aspects to work their best, then online eyeglasses are probably going to be a disappointment. When you go to an optical store, the people working there are trained in the details and importance of vision correction and eye safety. There are several measurements taken to ensure that your lenses will be aligned to give you the best possible vision. Even a 1 or 2 millimeter error can give you headaches or eyestrain.
The quality of the lenses will also affect the crisp clarity of the vision. (Think of the difference you see when you look through a cheap pair of binoculars compared to a good quality pair)
The cost of the frames you choose can vary depending on the designer (as in clothing) and depending on the quality and workmanship. You can often feel the difference when you try them on, and all good-quality manufacturers warranty their frames for at least 1 year.
There is no shortage of cheap stuff made in China, or of websites promising great deals. Vision is important and you want to spend your money wisely. You should have a pair of eyeglasses that function well, and can be adjusted to fit you comfortably.
The most important factor is trust and reputation. “Price is what you pay. Value is what you get.” --Warren Buffett
